MACKAY – the challenge is on, where can you swap your shop to #buymackay this Christmas?

Manager of Development and Innovation, Kylie Porter, for Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3) – the Mackay Isaac Whitsunday independent economic development body – said that the flow on impact from spending locally is “huge”.

“For every dollar that is spent locally, its’ value at least doubles,” Ms Porter said.

“Local spending creates more local jobs, encourages confidence and creates successful, sustainable communities.

“Shopping locally is easier than you think and, ultimately, it creates some pretty amazing long‐term impacts for our region.”

To #buymackay this Christmas, it doesn’t have to be all about presents.

“While we are always committed to helping our local retail businesses, if you want to support local this Christmas – it doesn’t have to stop with your Christmas shopping,” said Mackay Region Chamber of Commerce President, Victoria Gracie.

“Tradies, real estate agents, financial services – if you are looking to do home renos, or want to move house, or are thinking of reviewing your finances – there really are so many ways you can buy local and support our community this Christmas.

“Take hospitality – we are spoiled for choice when it comes to local eateries and entertainment.”

Ma’s Pizza owner Mark Webber said that effect of spending locally with their business went well beyond directly employing locals in the business.

“We strongly support people buying locally, because the majority of the money will stay in Mackay and helps to build our economy,” Mr Webber said.

“We employ local people and buy from local suppliers, but when others shop locally – it also enables us to give back to the community.

“Ma’s Pizza consistently support charities that make a significant local impact, such as the Mackay Hospital Foundation, the Salvation Army and RACQ CQ Rescue, in the form of sponsorships and donations. The only reason we can do that, is because our customers choose to shop with us.”
